Modified Assignment for Solo and Ensemble

Alternate Assignment for 2018 Solo and Ensemble.  All material is due no later than Friday, February 9 by 2:10 PM. All written responses must be handwritten in blue or black ink and double spaced. Each written response should be four to six pages in length (use only one side and double space on college ruled notebook paper).
 
Part One, Knowledge of Instrument Pedagogy:
Each instrument in the band has a very specific way of being played in order to produce a good sound and play with good technique.  Please watch the following video that is specific to your instrument and write an essay that explains what you have learned about playing your instrument from this video.  Please be sure to use specific time markers and examples from the video for everything you mention.  Please make sure you use correct technical terms.

  • Stage Presence
  • Discuss your observations on how the soloist performing is dressed. How did their attire affect your view of their performance?
  • The performer’s tone, technique, posture, phrasing, articulations
  • What surprised you about what your instrument can do in the hands of a professional musician?
  • What can you do as a high school musician to emulate the musicianship you saw in the video?
  • Be sure to use specific time markers from the video and to give specific examples from the video for everything you mention.
 
Part 3 Instrument Check
An important part of performing as a soloist is having all of your equipment for your instrument.  You need to show Mr. Hall your instrument in good working condition and your instrument supplies. 
 
Students who were disqualified and were present need to see Mr. Hall on the first day they have class.
